Thorney Weir is available to fish as part of the Thorney Weir-The Mets syndicate membership or on a day ticket basis. A beautiful lake of 17.5 acres lined with mature trees and offering a great many features to fish to, including islands both large and small, sunken barges, plateaus, gravel bars, and weed beds.

Upon entering the venue you drive along the track parallel to the area named The Channel where the carp, tench, and bream may often be found and many good fish are banked. Continuing along the track you will pass the next group of swims known collectively as the Road Bank. These swims give you a good view of the main section of the lake.

Arriving at the car park you proceed on foot to the River Bank, and before you arrive at the first swim there, the Pill Box, be sure to sneak a look among the snags for any whackers! It is advised you take the time to have a good look around the lake before settling on a swim as the fish will often show themselves. Casting to the middle of the lake is a tactic that regularly produce takes, though keep a keen eye on the margins and corners if you are stealthy.
Thorney Weir offers many more features among them some lovely bays and back areas for the specialist stalker and float fisher.

Thorney Weir

This was the first time the BCAC had been back at Thorney Weir for a few years and we are so glad to be back! The match was so tight right up until the very end and some absolute stunners caught.

The first fish of the match came within an hour and fell to Wayne Mansford & Ryan Need in peg 8, and this was just the start of the action as by the first night 5 pairs had caught with 17 fish out. Leading the way was Danny Martin & Paul McDowell in peg 7, 2^nd place was Ed McDermott & Chris Thompson in peg 9 closely followed by Wayne & Ryan only 1lb behind.

Saturday was pretty uneventful with the only pair to really catch anything was Danny & Paul who were really pulling away now. They sat on 183lb 10oz for 8 fish by the evening while Ed & Chris were still in 2^nd on a little over 91lb!

Although Saturday was slow, by Sunday morning it was all change Wayne & Ryan had leapfrogged Ed & Chris into second while Dave Pendegrass & John Stembridge in peg 4 had now moved into 3^rd place on 103lb only about 12lb about 4^th! They knew that one fish for Ed & Chris would almost certainly drop them out of the qualifying spots. And ten minutes before the final hooter, their worst fears where confirmed. Ed & Chris landed a 24lb mirror to move them into the qualifying spots, at the expense of Dave & John.

1^st –  Danny Martin & Paul McDowell 226lb 9oz

2^nd – Ed McDermott & Chris Thompson 115lb 1oz

3^rd – Wayne Mansford & Ryan Need 110lb 3oz
