Sandhurst Lake has fast become well known due to the fantastic day ticket fishing it provides. Very few day ticket waters give you the chance of a 40lb carp but the Sandhurst venue record currently stands at 44lb with several more fish over the 40lb mark. It is a relatively shallow lake with depths from 2 to 10ft, with an average of approximately 5ft. The venue has undergone some great development over the last year so be quick if you fancy this one.

Sandhurst

At the start of the week we had our concerns at the BCAC HQ about current spawning conditions and were all hoping for the best but had a feeling the fish weren’t going to play ball and unfortunately this was the case at Sandhurst.

After having a chat with the bailiff he was happy that the fish weren’t yet spawning so the competition could go ahead however he confirmed our fears that they were certainly not thinking about food.

The competition got underway at 12 noon Friday and all the fisherman could do was sit on their hands patiently waiting for that one bite. To add to the disinterest of the fish the lake was battered with hail storms Friday afternoon, then the combination of heavy down pours and glorious warm sunshine on Saturday which wasn’t going to help matters.

Over 35 hours in and we finally have a fish on the bank! The marshals couldn’t have been happier to receive the call at 11:30pm Saturday night from peg 2, Ashley Izzard and David Warren bagging a modest 20lb 2oz Common to get them a spot on the leader board.

Just a few hours later we had two in quick succession. 4:00am from peg 2 once again with another Common at 25lb 15oz and then 4:30am from peg 11, Karl Stevens and Martin Weatherly, with a lovely 23lb 10oz Common.

Sadly this would be it for Sandhurst meaning that 3rd place was up for grabs in the Cast Off, which went to Len Seward and Toby Simpson. Len Seward was casting for the pair, his first cast was slightly over shot but he adjusted perfectly for his second landing it straight on the centre square scoring them 10 points and securing their place in the Semis!
